8.2 million persons have signed a petition organized by the Homeland Demand campaign to indication their support of a presidential run by General Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, said campaign spokesperson Mlaz al-Hakim.
During her interview with Al-Rai Kuwaiti Newspaper, Al-Hakim said the campaign was formed from the revolutionaries of January 25 revolution, pointing that if Sisi were to run for the presidency, it would be in a civilian, not military capacity.
Since the July 3 ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi, a number of campaigns have emerged to encourage a potential presidential run by the Minister of Defense. Sisi has not yet stated an intent to run, but last week told a group of reporters that if the people wanted him to run they should demonstrate for him in the streets.
