The Greek Orthodox Patriarchate denied that Pope Tawadros II of the Coptic Orthodox Church is discussing the personal status law with the Ministry of Justice, the spokesperson of the patriarchate Bishop Nicola said Sunday.
In statements to Youm7, Bishop Nicola said that the Greek Orthodox Church is an independent religious group that has its own bylaw for personal status, recognized in Egypt.
Nicola added that all Christian sects have their own personal status law that is recognized legally. A unified law would be hard to be implemented especially as that there are many differences among sects regarding divorce.
