The official spokesperson of the Armed Forces Ahmed Mohamed Ali called upon media to double check any information before publishing news related to the military institution, in a statement published on his official Facebook page on Monday.
Ali said that the news on media channels lacks accuracy as any changes or appointments in military positions would be announced through the official military channels.
Earlier on Monday, media stated that Minister of Defense Abdel Fatah al-Sisi has been granted the title of field marshal and that the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces had officially assigned him to run for president in the upcoming elections.
Ali’s statements did not explicitly deny these reports, but urged media to wait for an official announcement by the military before publishing anything.
