The Supreme Electoral Commission decided that parliamentary elections will be held according to a system of individual candidacy, Mahmoud Fawzy, the official spokesperson of the Transitional Justice Ministry told MENA newspaper on Sunday.
This conclusion came amid several amendments in the law regulating the exercise of political rights and the organization of elections. The ministry is one of the parties involved in the decision-making process.
Fawzy explained that election laws have been amended 16 times in the past three years, which pushed his ministry to reconsider all articles, as the improvements should also include laws to put an end to political corruption and the use of religion in political campaigns.
Interim President Adly Mansour announced Sunday the first amendment to the roadmap, in which presidential elections should come before the parliament. Some decisions are still pending decision, such as the government’s policy to face terrorism and whether the state of emergency will remain effective.
