The socialist Popular Alliance Party called on Thursday for the dismissal of the government of Prime Minister Hazem al-Beblawy and the removal of Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim for their continued failure to complete the 2013 roadmap or hold presidential and parliamentary elections under democratic circumstances.
In a Thursday statement, the party called for a complete sacking of Interior Ministry employees, the punishment of those involved in cases of torture, a revisit of the lists of detainees, and the immediate release of all detainees who have not been charged.
The party called to form a committee from the National Council of Human Rights and human rights organizations to investigate all complaints regarding random arrests and torture in police stations.
The party said that the government should form popular and human rights committees to investigate the violations, defend those who were arrested, and support those who were tortured in detention.
Head of the Popular Alliance Party Abdul Ghafour Shukr demanded during his meeting with interim President Adly Mansour an immediate investigation into the list of detainees and the release of those not involved in violence acts, according to the statement.
Many protesters were detained on the third anniversary of the January 25 Revolution, and several human rights organization allege that they have been tortured in police stations. However, the Ministry of Interior denied any acts of torture or human rights abuses have occurred in prisons, in a Tuesday statement. Instead, the ministry said it would receive any complaints from a detainee directly and investigate the case.
The Arab Center for Independence of the Judiciary and Legal Profession (ACIJLP) demanded on Tuesday that Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim and Attorney General Hisham Barakat investigate human rights abuses against detainees arrested on the third anniversary of the January 25 Revolution.
In a Tuesday statement, the ACIJLP expressed concern over the violations of detainees’ human rights. The protesters who were detained during the third anniversary were subjected to various violations and have been brutally beaten during their detention, the ACIJLP said.
