Eight people have died of seasonal flu since last Tuesday in Egypt, bringing the total death toll of the flu to 52 cases, said the Health Ministry.
In a statement reported by the Middle East News Agency, the eight died of severe respiratory problems that were diagnosed as seasonal flu, also known as H1N1 virus.
At a press conference last Tuesday, Egypt's Health Minister Maha al-Rabat has said that the total number of diagnosed cases was 342 people, 44 of which died.
The ministry had previously said it will issue an official report Saturday and Tuesday of every week to announce the number of cases diagnosed with seasonal flu weekly.
In 2010, the World Health Organisation (WHO) announced that the H1N1 virus is one of the seasonal flu viruses. The organisation said the virus will continue to spread on a small scale yet will increase during winter.
