Popular Current founder Hamdeen Sabbahi will hold his first meeting Wednesday with various political forces, including the Socialist Popular Alliance Party’s political bureau, to present his platform and his plans for the presidential elections.
Popular Current spokesperson Emad Hamdy told Youm7 that the current has already begun to make extensive contact with the parties, political forces, and the public figures to support Sabbahi in the upcoming presidential elections.
“We will communicate with all the political forces that recognize the two revolutions of January 25 and June 30,” Hamdy added.
Further, Secretary-General of the Popular Alliance Party Talaat Fahmy said in a press statement issued Monday that the party will meet with the presidential candidate Hamdeen Sabbahi to discuss his view on the current situation.
The party’s final decision will be announced after the Central Committee meeting next Friday, Fahmy said, pointing out that there are two tendencies within the party.
The first believes that the current stage requires a decisive confrontation with terrorism, and that Field Marshal Abdel Fatah al-Sisi is the most appropriate at this stage, the other believes that Hamdeen Sabbahi is the closest to the goals of the revolution.
For his part, head of the Socialist Popular Alliance Party and member of the National Salvation Front Abdel Ghaffar Shokr told Youm7 that Front has been divided over the support of the Field Marshal Abdel Fatah al-Sisi or Popular Current founder Hamdeen Sabbahi in the upcoming presidential elections
The Front is likely to refrain from supporting a presidential candidate in order to allow the freedom to its constituent parties to support whomever they choose, Shokr added, pointing out that the Socialist Popular Alliance Party will officially announce its position after opening the door to run for presidency.
