NASL statement accuses judges, calls for rally

The pro-Mohamed Morsi National Alliance to Support Legitimacy issued a statement on Monday announcing that they will rally on Tuesday to commemorate the Abu Zaabal incident.\The pro-Mohamed Morsi National Alliance to Support Legitimacy issued a statement on Monday announcing that they will rally on Tuesday to commemorate the Abu Zaabal incident.\

Thirty six pro-Morsi prisoners were killed in a transport truck en route to Abu Zaabal Prison when security forces fired tear gas into the vehicle on Aug. 17, 2013. The Ministry of Interior said this was a reaction to an escape attempt that included an armed group driving up to the truck and opening fire.

The statement accused judges of protecting the killers of those who participated in the revolution, adding that the independence of the judiciary no longer exists. Four police officers are currently standing trial for the deaths, although the trial sessions have been repeatedly postponed since they began in October 2013, with the courts not setting a date after the last postponement on Jan. 21.

The NASL blamed authorities for the Taba explosion on Sunday, saying that the government was busy with tuk-tuk regulations and fighting the poor.

The statement asked people to rally on Tuesday in front of the victim’s houses and everywhere in the country to commemorate their death, especially that the perpetrators of this crime have not been tried for six months now.
