NSF supports presidential candidate who adopts revolutionary goals

National Salvation Front spokesperson Waheed Abdel Megeed told Youm7 Wednesday that the front’s support to presidential candidates depends on their commitment to the goals of the January 25 Revolution.

Abdel Megeed added that presidential candidates’ platforms should achieve a balance between economic development and social justice, and between security and democracy on the other hand.

NSF secretary Omar el-Gendy told Youm7 on Feb. 11 that Hamdeen Sabbahi does not represent the front. Sabbahi, whose Popular Current Movement is a member of the NSF, announced prior his intent to run.

Although he has not yet declared a candidacy, many expect Defense Minister Abdel Fatah al-Sisi to run for office.

Abdel Megeed told Youm7 on Feb. 6 that Sisi should announce his platform for elections and choose his presidential team, a day after a Kuwaiti newspaper announced Sisi’s candidacy, which was later officially denied by the army.

Abdel Megeed said security procedures will not be sufficient to achieve complete victory over terrorism, stressing that presidential candidates should provide cultural and political solutions to confront the violence.
