The security authority is prepared to confront attacks from Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis, security expert Brigadier Khaled Okasha told Youm7 Thursday.
He said tourism is the most important target for terrorist groups since the 1990’s. Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis gave tourists a deadline to leave Egypt; they announced three days ago that they will attack any tourist who stays in the country after the deadline, which is Thursday.
Okasha said that their threats are not scheduled, does not follow a pattern, and attacks can happen at any day and any time in the next few weeks.
Islamic researcher Hisham Naggar told Youm7 that terrorists are targeting tourists and foreigners in Egypt for many reasons, including the failure of their operations against police and army facilities which did not result with any political impact.
Naggar said the state did not surrender to the terrorists’ demands and goals and Egypt has a long history with confronting terrorism when attacks target tourists in the 1990’s.
Naggar said the state should confront terrorism professionally and mobilize the international community to support Egypt.
