Founder of the Popular Current and candidate in the upcoming presidential elections Hamdeen Sabbahi denied reports published by media outlets on Saturday which claim he held secret meetings with leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood.
The news reports claim Sabbahi was reviewing ways the Brotherhood could support his candidacy in the presidential elections.
In a statement issued Sunday, Sabbahi confirmed that his stance on the Muslim Brotherhood is clear, and said he has not met with any Brotherhood leaders since June 30. He explained that he totally rejects any coordination or coalition with the group in regards to the presidential elections.
The statement added that Sabbahi will not ask for the group’s support because of their use of violence and their continuous challenge of the will of Egyptian people.
Sabbahi asked mass media officials to confirm the accuracy of their sources before publishing unchecked material.
