Cairo Criminal Court will continue on Thursday the trial of Mubarak-era Shura Council speaker Safwat al-Sherif and his two sons over illegal gains charges and abuse of office.
The Illicit Gains Authority referred Sherif and his two sons Ehab who has been released and Ashraf who is fugitive to the criminal court over illicit gains worth LE600 million through the abuse of Sherif's office.
Ehab was released after an appeal was made on the grounds that the charges had not been adequately investigated.
Egypt had asked the Interpol to arrest and extradite Ashraf.
Sherif is charged with amassing the money when he was in the positions of chairman of the General Authority for Information Service, chairman of Radio and Television Union, minister of information and chairman of the Shura Council. Sherif had been accused in another case of inciting the killing of demonstrators in the Battle of the Camel.
The Illicit Gains Authority demanded including Sherif's wife Iqbal Attiya Halaby and his daughter Eman in the case.
