The National Coalition to Support Legitimacy and the Muslim Brotherhood called for protests on Friday, according to a statement issued on their official Facebook page, Thursday.
“Corruption has re-emerged, the economy has been destroyed and the coup is burning our nation. We swear to God that Egypt will not go back to what it was before the January 25 Revolution,” read the introduction of the statement.
Friday’s protests, under the slogan “We will not be ruled by the corrupt,” come as part of a week of “intense demonstrations,” the statement said, referring to ongoing crises in the country, such as the crackdown on activists, workers and other categorical strikes due to public discontent with the government’s performance, and the conditions of their work.
“The main dynamic locations where protests will be organized are Alf Maskan, Matareya, October 6 City, Haram, Ain Shams,” a source inside the coalition revealed to Youm7 on Thursday.
On the other hand, Islamic researcher Hisham el-Naggar commented on the Brotherhood’s decision, saying, “The Brotherhood is facing internal challenges regarding which resistance policies to adopt.”
“Some members do not believe in peaceful protesting, after it failed to achieve their goals, but the formation of scattered organizations directly attacking security forces has also proven to be ineffective. This is why they are trying to align with other protesters to increase their numbers,” Naggar continued to Youm7.
“They did the same with the April 6 Youth Movement during the commemoration of Jan. 25, and the Revolutionary Socialists’ youth. But in reality the Brotherhood has lost its credibility due to the constant manipulation of political events, which constantly portrays the organization as solely aspiring to its own gains and using the revolutionary forces to attain them,” Naggar stated.
On a further note, ongoing strikes in different sectors have raged on against government institutions, with workers in several industrial sectors struggling to achieve the implementation of minimum wage and demanding their financial and labor rights.
Among these major factional strikes, doctors, pharmacists, state officials, transport workers and many more have held open and partial strikes against their affiliated ministries, with no signs of relenting soon.
