Interim President Adly Mansour has sent a report of the National Council for Human Rights (NCHR) to the minister of justice, asking him to investigate police violations during the forcible dispersal of the Rabaa Al-Adawiya sit-in last August, Al-Ahram Arabic news website reported.
Spokesperson of the presidency Ihab Badawi said Wednesday that Mansour requested that a judge be assigned to investigate in all allegations against security forces contained in the NCHR in the report.
The minister of justice should send the NCHR report to the general prosecutor so that he can hear the testimony of the NCHR committee.
The NCHR held a press conference Monday, announcing that 1,492 were injured during the dispersal and that 800 were arrested.
It earlier announced that 632 people were killed during the dispersal, including eight police officers.
It concluded that while supporters of ousted Islamist president Mohamed Morsi fired first and used machine guns, security forces on the scene responded with excessive force, "firing out of proportion".
Footage was screened at the press conference Monday showing violations committed by the police, accused by the NCHR of using disproportionate fire.
In a press conference in Istanbul, the National Alliance to Support Legitimacy, the main pro-Mohamed Morsi coalition in Egypt, said Wednesday that the death toll of the Rabaa dispersal was 1,182, with 500 injured and 350 missing.
