Dozens of Al-Azhar University students affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood staged a night march Monday around the student residence, Youm7 reported.Dozens of Al-Azhar University students affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood staged a night march Monday around the student residence, Youm7 reported.

The students called upon people to demonstrate on Wednesday in Tahrir, Rabaa and Nahda squares following the Brotherhood’s National Coalition to Support Legitimacy call to demonstrate in protest of a court verdict Monday that sentenced 529 Brotherhood members to death on charges of attacking a police station and killing its deputy head.

The students damaged the university’s outer wall Monday night using uprooted lampposts, while chanting against the military and police, waving Brotherhood flags, and holding up the four fingered Rabaa symbol, Youm7 reported.

Deputy Head of Al-Azhar University Tawfik Nour el-Din said in a phone call with Al-Nahar TV on Monday night that the university’s newly installed cameras captured images of 31 students who attacked the wall, and said they will be expelled.

Protests at universities, namely Al-Azhar University, against the ouster of former President Mohamed Morsi and against the military-backed government have been ongoing since the beginning of the academic year in September 2013.
