A woman was subjected to wolf whistles and "attempts to rip her clothes off" as she walked through the grounds of an Egyptian University.
A video posted on YouTube shows the blonde woman, wearing a bright pink top and fitted jeans, being surrounded by jeering men at Cairo University last week.
The woman is followed across the campus by a group of men while others look on, whistling and shouting towards her.
Footage shows bystanders looking on as the woman is followed, apparently unconcerned for her welfare as they record videos on their mobile phones.
A member of anti-sexual harassment group 'I saw harassment', Fathi Farid, reportedly said male students had tried to undress the woman as well as targeting her verbally.
The woman was later escorted from the university by security guards.
Cairo University's President, Dr Gaber Nasser, sparked outrage when he later appeared to blame the woman for the incident when he told a television show it was a result of her brightly-coloured clothes.
He told OnTV, a private Egyptian television network: "The girl took off her abaya (cloak) inside the university and appeared with those clothes – which was a reason for what happened … we don't require a uniform here but clothes should be within the tradition of our society.
"The girl's mistake doesn't justify what happened to her at the hands of those students," he added.
His comments were described as "insanely appalling" by Soraya Bahgat, founder of Tahrir Bodyguards, which tries to protect women from sexual assaults in Egypt's capital.
Dr Nasser later partially retracted the remarks, saying: "It is clear that a false perception has been generated among some people that I placed the responsibility for what happened on the student. I assure you that this is not true and I apologise for the misunderstanding."
