Shubra Criminal Court adjourned Thursday the trial of Mohamed Badie, the supreme guide of the Muslim Brotherhood, in the “Qalyub Highway” case to April 2.
Badie is being tried with 47 other defendants, 14 of whom are Brotherhood leaders.
Representatives of the State Cases Authority demanded Mohamed Badie and the other Brotherhood leaders pay over 1 million EGP ($140,000) in damages caused to the state.
The judge presiding over the trial allowed relatives of Badie, Safwat Hegazy, Mohamed al-Beltagy and Bassem Ouda to attend the session.
The defendants are accused of blocking the Qalyub Highway, which left three citizens dead, following the July 3, 2013 ouster of former President Mohamed Morsi.
According to Youm7, a number of the defendants confessed during investigations that they belong to the Muslim Brotherhood group, and that they participated in the pro-MB Rabaa al-Adaweya sit-in that was dispersed in July.
The defendants are charged with murder, blocking roads, possessing weapons, spreading chaos, and thuggery.
Badie is being accused of several charges, including violence, terrorism, and murder, in a number of trials.
