Ahmed Doma’s wife and his brother will organize a sit-in at Ithadeya presidential palace Monday after Tora Prison’s Misdemeanor Court of Appeals approved the three-year prison sentence issued for political activists Ahmed Doma, Ahmed Maher and Mohamed Adel, reported Youm7.
The decision sparked anger among activists on social media, who considered the verdict issued by the Misdemeanor Court of Appeals “unfair.”
Twitter users used the hashtag # al-7orya lel gedaan, meaning “freedom for heroes,” to demand the activists’ release, reported Al-Wafd newspaper.
Doma and the other revolutionary youth should be granted a presidential pardon, said presidential candidate and Popular Current Party head Hamdeen Sabbahi.
“It is inappropriate for Egypt after the January 25 Revolution to imprison revolutionary youth due to an unfair law while those who committed corruption and killed its youth are still free because of impotent laws,” Sabbahi wrote Monday on his Twitter account.
The head of the Arabic Network for Human Rights Information Gamal Eid described the verdict as “an unfair verdict.” On his twitter account he said the verdict will make people feel “oppressed, angry.”
Political activist Alaa Abdel Fatah said on his official twitter page that the case is one of the biggest scandals in the Egyptian judiciary.
Maher, Adel and Doma were sentenced to three years in jail, fined 50,000 EGP, and ordered to be placed under surveillance for three years for orchestrating illegal protests and assaulting police officers in November 2013 in front of Abdeen Misdemeanors Court.
