Gunmen launched three rocket propelled grenades (RPGs) at an army checkpoint in the city of Sheikh Zuwayed in North Sinai on Monday night.
Witnesses said the attack left a yet unknown number of casualties taken to hospital.
Army troops went to the village of Abu Zarei, where the missiles were launched from, to search for the assailants.
