Cairo Criminal Court adjourned to April 19 the trial of Adel Habara and 34 others for killing 25 security soldiers in the case publicly known as “Rafah second massacre,” Youm7 reported.
The court decided to adjourn the trial because a witness did not show. The witness was fined 50 EGP (U.S. $7) for his absence.
The Cairo Criminal Court listened to the defense team of Habara and the other 34 suspects before it adjourned the trial.
On Aug. 19, 27 conscripts were forced out of micro-buses along the Rafah-Arish Road and were later found dead on the side of the road. Only two survived the attack, sustaining severe injuries, the German news agency DPA reported.
Habara, arrested on Sept. 1, is suspected of leading an Al-Qaeda-linked group. He reportedly admitted to his involvement in the killing of soldiers. According to one official, Habara has already been given the death sentence – in absentia – for killing soldiers in the Nile Delta last year, according to AP.
