Egyptian interim President Adly Mansour has laid a wreath at a war memorial in Cairo as part of commemorations for Sinai Liberation Day.
Mansour was accompanied by high-profile government officials, including Defence Minister Sedky Sobhy and Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab, in the traditional visit to the tomb of president Anwar Sadat and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, state news agency MENA reported.
The day, a public holiday which officially falls on 25 April, marks the 1982 withdrawal of Israeli occupiers from the Sinai Peninsula.
The interim leader is due to deliver an address to the nation later on Wednesday to mark the occasion.
The Sinai Peninsula has been plagued by a deadly Islamist insurgency since last year's ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi.
