Beit el-Senary in Cairo held an open day Saturday under the slogan “Coptic heritage between reality and hope” to celebrate International Day for Monuments and Sites.
The day was held in cooperation with The Coptic Studies Center of Bibliotheca Alexandrina and was sponsored by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) and the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM) according to Al-Wadi newspaper.
The event included several important lectures about the various problems facing Coptic heritage, including problems regarding Coptic monuments, as well as Coptic heritage, said Coordinator of the day, Coptic heritage expert, Ezzat Habib, Al-Nahar news reported.
The lectures were given by a number of experts in Coptic heritage fields, such as the fields of restoration, archeology and law. Secretary of the Patriarch of the Coptic Catholic community in Egypt Hany Bakhoum, and Director of the Coptic Studies CenterLoai Mahmoud Saeed, in addition to Ezzat Habib and Dahy Shabaan also lectured at the open day.
The aim behind the open day is to shed the light on the problems facing Coptic heritage and show that it is one of the most neglected eras of Egyptian history.
“If the situation remains unchanged Coptic heritage could be lost,” said Loai Mahmoud Saeed, according to Al-Nahar.
