The National Alliance to Support Legitimacy (NASL), which backs deposed President Mohamed Morsy, said the International Criminal Court accepted its lawsuit accusing the Egyptian authorities of war crimes during the dispersal of the Brotherhood sit-ins in August 2013, noting that the court would officially announce it in a few days. NASL leading figure Ihab Shiha said the defense team persuaded the court to go back on its earlier decision not to accept the lawsuit if it is not filed by the Egyptian government itself. He said the court accepted a lawsuit filed by the Syrian opposition against the regime of President Bashar al-Assad, which is why the defense team requested the court to reconsider.
