Court sentences 34 alleged Brotherhood supporters

An Egyptian court sentenced on Saturday 34 Muslim Brotherhood supporters to two years, fining them 1,000 pounds each, and acquitted two others over clashes in Old Cairo during celebrations of the third anniversary of the January 25 uprising.

The defendants were accused of breaching a new protest law, belonging to a terrorist organization, attacking the authorities and vandalizing public and private property.

Earlier this month, the same court sentenced 38 other alleged Brotherhood supporters to two years over the same clashes.

Demonstrations that often escalate into violence have been common since the ouster of President Mohamed Mursi last year.
