Cairo Criminal Court adjourned Tuesday the trial of Muslim Brotherhood leaders Mohamed al-Beltagy and Safwat Hegazy to June 8 to review the accusations of torturing two police officers Mohamed Farouk and Hani Eid during the Rabaa al-Adaweya sit-in, Youm7 reported.
Security forces allowed the defendants’ families to attend the trial session.
Beltagy and Hegazy, along with two doctors from the makeshift hospital of the dispersed Rabaa al-Adaweya sit-in, are being tried for kidnapping and torturing Farouk and Eid.
The defendants include Beltagy, Hegazy, Abdel Azeem Mohamed, and Mohamed Zanaty.
On Aug. 29, Beltagy was arrested in the apartment of his fellow Muslim Brotherhood leader Khaled al-Azhari in Giza and Hegazy was arrested a week prior in the Mediterranean governorate of Matrouh.
The investigations carried out by the prosecution early September confirmed that the two policemen were allegedly captured in the Rabaa al-Adaweya sit-in while they were securing a Brotherhood march. The defendants allegedly dragged the policemen into the Rabaa sit-in and physically attacked them.
