The Sohag Criminal Court on Thursday handed multiple sentences to Muslim Brotherhood backers over charges of calling for a civil disobedience throughout the province.
One defendant was sentenced to life, 28 others to prison terms ranging from one to 10 years and 10 others were acquitted.
The area around the court had seen strict security measures and roads leading to the court were barricaded.
Other charges included protesting without prior governmental approval, hindering traffic and affiliation with a banned group.
