The interim government will hold its last meetings Monday morning, before tendering its resignation to newly elected President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, Youm7 reported Sunday.
The former army chief took the official oath of office Sunday.
Economic expert Alaa Abdel el-Hallim told The Cairo Post Sunday that he predicts interim Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab will stay in office until the next period given his “good performance.”
Meanwhile, informed sources told Youm7 that Sisi will keep Mahlab in office. Mahlab took over from previous interim Prime Minister Hazem al-Beblawy on Feb. 25.
After an announcement that Mahlab will stay, negotiations will begin for appointing new ministers, sources added.
“Mahlab may remain until the upcoming parliamentary elections,” Abd el-Hallim, a board member at the United Company for Securities Trading, said.
He also said that after parliamentary elections, Egypt will need a political—not a technocratic—government, noting that technocratic governments are preferred in transitional periods, but Egypt will need a government accountable to Parliament.
