Alaa Abdel Fatah sentenced to 15 years in prison

Alaa Abdel Fatah was sentenced Wednesday to 15 years in jail for conducting illegal protests outside the Shura Council in November 2013.
 
Abdel Fatah and 24 others were sentenced in absentia to 15 years in jail each on the same charges. The defendants were protesting military trials for civilians and were dispersed and arrested under the regulations of the 2013 protest law.
 
Police forces arrested Abdel Fatah once he arrived at the Cairo Criminal Court which held at police institute in Torah; he arrived after the ruling was issued, Youm7 reported Wednesday.
 
Abdel Fatah had also been charged with using melee-weapons, assaulting security forces, stealing an officer’s walkie-talkie, disrupting public order, and endangering citizens.
 
Abdel Fatah was also arrested on Oct. 30, 2011 following charges he had helped initiate the deadly clashes that took place on Oct. 9 outside Maspiro. He was released on Dec. 25, 2011.

He  was previously detained during the presidency of Hosni Mubarak and the rule of the Supreme Council of Armed forces, and was under investigation during Morsi’s presidency.
