The Giza Criminal Court sentenced 12 men to death Wednesday, accused of storming the Kerdasa police station and murdering several police officers in last August.
The defendants are accused of forming “terrorist” groups for the purpose of carrying out acts of sabotage, “exposing the community’s integrity and security to danger,” possessing weapons, bullets, and bombs, and the premeditated murder of Giza Police Chief of Securities Nabil Farag and other police officers in Kerdasa police station following the dispersal of Rabaa and Nahda sit-ins, Youm7 reported.
Farag was fatally shot Sep. 19, 2013, shortly after security forces and Kerdasa’s armed militants exchanged gunfire during a security crack-down on militants. The area witnessed escalating violence following the ouster of President Mohamed Morsi in July 2013. His funeral was attended by then-Defence Minister Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi, Prime Minister Hazem al-Beblawy, and Minister of Interior Mohamed Ibrahim.
