An administrative court nullified Tuesday a prior decision issued by the Cairo Court for Urgent Matters to seize the funds of 20 schools on charges of affiliation with the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood, Youm7 reported.
The court said that Tuesday’s ruling is based on Egypt’s laws governing NGOs passed in 2002, that the urgent matters court has no jurisdiction to rule in such matters and that the Administrative Judiciary Court at the State Council is the only judicial body entitled to issue rulings in such disputes.
The court also said the 20 schools are not affiliated with the MB and that the decision to seize their funds is illegal.
The court said that the Cairo Court for Urgent Matters should have refused to consider the case from the beginning.
Last December, the Cairo Court for Urgent Matters ordered that the 20 schools be seized for their alleged affiliation with the MB, which was labeled by the State a terrorist organization in the same month.
In March 2013, Director of the Arabic Center for Integrity and Transparency Shehata Mohamed Shehata, along with two other lawyers filed a lawsuit to the court for urgent matters to dissolve the MB, seize its assets and properties and close all its headquarters nationwide, as it was officially recognized by the State as a terrorist organization.
