Four subway stations in the center and the northern part of Egypt's capital Cairo were under attack by a homemade bomb this morning.
Another minor blast took place near the Heliopolis courthouse in eastern Cairo on Wednesday morning, eyewitnesses and local media have reported, shortly after two explosions in two Cairo metro stations injured at least four.
Egyptian security officials say explosions have struck four subway stations in Cairo, wounding two people and causing widespread panic among morning commuters.
At least three were injured, according to state news agency MENA and Al-Ahram.
The first blast, which took place in the northern Shubra station, was caused by an improvised bomb, interior ministry spokesman Abdel-Fattah Othman said. The second was a result of a sonic explosive placed in a rubbish bin at Ghamra station, on a different metro line.
The spokesperson denied earlier reports that four explosions had taken place at four different stations.
One of those injured in the blasts is a suspect, he added.
No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attacks. This was the first attack in the Egyptian capital since last month's election of former army chief Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi as the country's new president.
El-Sissi led the military's ouster of Islamist President Mohammed Morsi after millions demonstrated against him in the streets last July.
Since then, Islamic militants have stepped up attacks against the military and police across Egypt.
