Egypt's Sisi arrives in Malabo, meets African leaders

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi arrived in Malabo on Wednesday night to attend an African summit and discuss water issues, in his first foreign tour since he assumed the presidency earlier this month.

Sisi held talks with South Sudan's President Salva Kiir upon his arrival to Equatorial Guinea, reported the state news agency MENA.

He also met with Deputy President of Sudan Bakri Hassan Saleh.

Before Equatorial Guinea, Sisi stopped in Algiers, discussed bilateral relations and sought Algeria's support to counter Islamist militancy in north Africa.

The newly elected president is scheduled to meet with other African presidents who head their delegations to the summit.

The 23rd African Union Summit takes place under the title of "Agriculture and Food Security".

The African Union has suspended Egypt from all its activities last year following the military's ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Mursi, which was prompted by mass protests against his rule.

It ended Egypt's suspension from the grouping last week after the election of a new president.
