The Criminal Court at the Police Academy adjourned Wednesday the re-trial of Mubarak-era Interior Minister Habib al-Adly and Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif, who face charges of squandering public funds, to August 26.
The session lasted 15 minutes, and then was postponed to summon the minister’s assistants of the technical and financial offices of the Interior Ministry upon the request of the defense.
Both suspects are accused of closing a deal with German Otis Co. to import license plates with a direct purchase order at the cost of 176 million EGP (U.S. $25.5 million,) without comparing other bids as dictated by law.

The 14 defendants include Mohamed Morsi, former Muslim Brotherhood Supreme Guide Mohamed Badie, Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) Chairman Saad Katatni, senior Brotherhood leader Mohamed al-Beltagy, and FJP Deputy Chairperson Essam el-Erian, among others. Seven of the 14 defendants are being tried in absentia.
Giza Criminal Court adjourned the trial of Ansar Bayt Al-Maqdis include 6 defendants in the case called “October Cell” over charges of committing crimes, forming a terrorist cell and opening fire on security forces at the Church of St Mary the Virgin in 6 October district in Giza which led to the death of a police officer, to August 9 to continue hearing the prosecution witnesses.
