Let me first wish Egyptians, Egypt, and all Egypt’s friends and enemies a very happy Ramadan –Ramadan Moubarak- May God Keep blessing you all.
I watched yesterday the documentary film “Copts’ Island” in fact I miss a lot documentaries movies on Egyptian TV, ALL Egyptian channels broadcast drama, news, talk shows but no documentaries. My last ever memories go back to 60’s when Abd-El-Fatah Gohar (R.I.P) used to teach us the underwater secrets of the seas and oceans in his weekly program The World Of Seas or “Alam El Behar” in Arabic; other documentaries in this era included PhD. Mostapha Mahmoud (R.I.P) “El Elm wal Iman” or Science and Faith and I do not recall the presenter of “Hadth fi Mithl Haza Alyoum” or Happened in a Similar day, and “Alam el Hayaouan” or the Animal’s World!
I appreciate in general films, movies or documentaries but my artistic base knowledge is very poor, out of a few acting stars, singers, dancers names, I have no recollection who the director of that movie or the composer of that piece of music, or the poet of this poem that I loved. I need 1st to be fascinated with a piece of art, follow it before I start knowing the real names behind the scenes, this includes my adorable movies that left back huge finger prints in my life, teaching me a new principal in life or facts of life.
I have no idea how a documentary is created, neither who is behind the scenes, but for the 1st time I got to see the director of a documentary, I really learnt something new, relived, or lived again recent memories that in the space of life I lived, cannot be classified yet as memories, they do represent to me current present events as the event until reached its conclusion cannot end! We still in the process of taking back Egypt, it is not back yet therefore the event still alive. Therefore all the events that led to the current and present state are not memories yet but still very much alive, just like the main and principal actor Mina Daniel who is still very much alive in our hearts, the hearts of the people who lived and talked to him like his relatives, followers, the ones that recorded his world for people like me to get to see him and hear his words and feel how much alive he is still and remains!
Before resuming my feeling and commenting on the events of this documentary, I wish to stand up in respect hats off to all who participated in this documentary, Director, actors, or commentators, they all deserve my salutes and respects.
As I said, this documentary is about the period 2011-2014 which I classified as a current still running live event, the process of taking back Egypt, but the question is:
What Egypt was stolen who stole it and how?
Egypt I know:-
I was born 1951, never got to know what Egypt looked like before 1950’s but saw and lived the world of 40’s in Nagib Rihani, Youssef Wahby, Laila Morad, Samia Gamal, Mary Mounib..........and many more actors and movies that showed my what Egypt looked like!
I recall, my neighbors were from Italy the manager of a super style models store called Gategnio, mainly selling clothes of all types, there were Gategnio, Rivoly, Omar Efendi and many more, you walk on the main streets of down town, Fouad street –after King Fouad- and Soliman Basha street –after a French occupant of the Napoleon’s conquer attack to Egypt- and you see the then capital that was awarded top rank within European countries elegant streets, and life style!
Excuse me I read history, and learn, but this is not history this was Egypt I saw! Ex-president Jamal Abd-el-Nasser –R.I.P- or for short Nasser, was an Egyptian who loved this country like many more, Egyptians and non Egyptians, [cause Egypt was blessed by God] people visitors and any one falls in love with it!
R.I.P. Nasser like Orabi before him and Saad Zaghloul, Mostapha Kamel that history tells us how they stood opposing wrong doing whatever it was whomever is doing it, some failed like Orabi, some partially succeeded like Saad Zaghloul who created the until today’s well known party El-Wafd regardless of its stance in today’s politics; I re-iterate, Nasser, Orabi, Zaghloul and on top of them Mohamed Naguib they all loved Egypt and tried their best to keep it going…including ex-King Farouk –R.I.P.- who out of true love of Egypt and Egyptians he accepted to live and die in exile, just to spare Egyptians from fighting over the throne something ousted Morsy disregarded proving over and over again the amount of haters in his heart towards Egypt and Egyptians!
Nasser –R.I.P.- was human not God, he committed errors no doubts on that, one of his major mistakes altering and re-inventing HISTORY, trying to create natural hate to the people that could become symbols in the lives of simple Egyptians, King Farouk and the whole royal family were on top of the people that their image had to be altered, Mahamed Naguib was a clear and present danger, and many more! As a result, Street Fouad become 23rd. of July Street, sooner or later Soliman Bash square become Talaat Harb, the statue of the French Engineer who supervised and executed the Canal of Suez digging become the Tiran who caused the death of hundreds of poor farmers that were enslaved to dig this Canal, his statue had to go under the sea to show the Egyptians he cared about them!
Excuse me, I start reading HISTORY, I had to in an attempt to answer the question where STOLEN EGYPT is and how it was stolen? In the new month July being as well the month of the revolution I’ll start reading history in a new chain of articles to see the dear beloved Egypt we lost and how to get it back mean time I wish each and all Egyptians a RAMADAN MOUBARAK, and may God keep blessing Egypt and Egyptians.
