The Red Sea Criminal Court fined 21 members of the Muslim Brotherhood 6,000 EGP Tuesday ($839) after the Qena Appeal Court rejected their June 1 request to change the body of judges deliberating their case, Youm7 reported.
The criminal court also adjourned their trial to Aug. 4 to hear witnesses from the departments of homeland security and criminal investigations. The defendants are charged with committing and inciting violence, illegal assembly, deliberate murder and disrupting the work of state institutions.
They were detained on Aug. 14, 2013, as they were protesting against the forcible dispersal of the Rabaa al-Adaweya sit-in on the same day.
The Egyptian law allows up to two years in prison pending trial. If sentenced, the time a defendant spends in pre-trial detention is deducted from his prison term. If acquitted, the Egyptian law stipulates no compensation for a defendant.
