A number of political parties asked Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Tuesday to amend a new parliamentary elections law to increase the number of running lists and blocs.
The Wafd Party, Al-Masryeen Al-Ahrrar, Al-Dostour, The Popular Current, Al-Karama, The Social Democratic Party and Masr al-Karama said in a statement on Tuesday that designating only 120 seats to blocs is an obstacle to the democratic transition.
Prominent figures, including George Ishaq, Ahmed al-Borei and Mohamed Ghoneim have also signed the statement.
Parliamentary elections procedures are scheduled to begin in mid July in accordance with the constitution.
A number of political parties had criticized the new parliamentary elections law that was passed earlier this year.
