An Egyptian court sentenced on Sunday 101 "supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood" to three years in prison on several charges including vandalism and belonging to a banned group.
The defendants have staged a protest in the Nile Delta city of Damietta without acquiring a permit, in accordance with the protest law issued last November.
They were accused of attacking citizens, vandalizing public property and shops, resisting the authorities and blocking traffic.
The court acquitted 17 people from the charges.
Many Islamist and liberal activists have been arrested within the past few months for staging demonstrators without permit.
