Rabaa torture trial adjourned until 4 August

Cairo Criminal Court adjourned on Tuesday the trial of Muslim Brotherhood leading figures Mohamed al-Beltagy and Safwat Hegazy and others for allegedly kidnapping and torturing two policemen during a Muslim Brotherhood sit-in to 4 August.Cairo Criminal Court adjourned on Tuesday the trial of Muslim Brotherhood leading figures Mohamed al-Beltagy and Safwat Hegazy and others for allegedly kidnapping and torturing two policemen during a Muslim Brotherhood sit-in to 4 August.

The court allowed the defendants' families to attend the trial. They gathered around the cage, greeted the defendants and flashed the Rabaa al-Adaweya salute.

Beltagy told one of his relatives in a loud voice, "We are ready for the gallows and for the sentences, but we hope [Sisi] will solve the local and foreign problems."

"We can bear the hardships. [Sisi] and those who took part in this comedy will pay for it," Hegazy said. "Egyptians will stage a revolution soon."

The defendants were arrested after former President Morsy's ouster and the trials are part of a larger crackdown on the Muslim Brotherhood.
