The Egyptian armed forces attacked several hideouts for "terrorists" in North Sinai, the army spokesman said in a statement on Monday.
Seven "extremists" were killed and five were wounded in a fire EXCHANGE with security forces, according to the statement.
The security forces arrested five others.
Army and police forces have launched intensive crackdowns on Sinai to arrest militants and extremists that have been increasingly targeting police and military personnel and installations since the ouster of former President Mohamed Mursi last July.
