Egypt denounces killing of civilians in Gaza, urges for negotiation

Egypt's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned Israel's excessive use of force against civilians in the Palestinian Gaza strip, said a government statement issued on Monday.

Egypt denounced the most recent strikes against a park in al-Shate camp and a health compound in Gaza.

At least 10 Palestinians, including eight children, were killed on Monday in the attack that targeted the external clinics in the health compound.

The statement also denounced the targeting of elders, women and children.

The Foreign Ministry said that "All parties must abide by the international humanitarian law and the four Geneva conventions to not target civilians."
Israel launched its offensive on July 8 saying it wanted to halt rocket attacks by Hamas and its allies.

More than 1,100 Palestinians, most of them civilians, have been killed in the conflict.

Egypt called for a humanitarian truce on Friday and it was approved by both sides but it fell apart after Hamas fired rockets at Israel and Israel responded by heavy strike on Gaza.
