Egypt has filed a compliant to the United States on remarks made by its state department deputy spokeswoman, which accused Egypt of using American aid to suppress demonstrators.
Marie Harf said in a press briefing on Thursday that the Egyptian army was using the U.S. military aid "against their own people" in comparison to Israel, which uses the aid "to fight a terrorist organization."
The Egyptian Foreign Affairs Ministry issued a statement on Sunday saying that the remarks "show complete lack of knowledge about the true state of affair in Egypt."
"Such statements lack the most basic rules of credibility and objectivity in holding an unacceptable and unjustified comparison between Egypt and Israel about the continued Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip and the consequent killing of Palestinian civilians," Badr Abdel Atti, foreign affairs ministry spokesperson, said.
Egypt demanded that the U.S. State Department official name a specific incident in which it has clamped down on demonstrations using U.S. military aid.
