Major General Mahmoud Atiq, governor of Sohag, is currently pending investigation for inciting sectarian strife in Nag Sheikh Yusuf village, Suhag.
Sectarian clashes between Muslims and Christians in Nag Sheikh Yusuf village, Suhag, had erupted after the governor issued decision to replace the name of an elementary school named after a Muslim Sheikh to carry the name of a Coptic soldier called Peter Saber Issa, who was killed in attack against army unit in Farafra.
Muslims of the village considered the decision an insult to Islam and Muslims, and replaced the new banner by an older one carrying the name of Sheikh Yusuf.
Violent clashes broke out between the two parties causing 5 injuries.
