On Aug. 14, a video published by the group on YouTube showed a number of masked persons holding automatic weapons. The video was released a few hours after the killing of a police officer in Helwan and the injury of another.

The five arrested suspects guided the police to their colleagues’ hiding places after intensive investigations started after the arrest. The national security sector started launching a massive campaign to catch the other militants.

Security forces were able to catch Magdy ‘Fonia’ Ibrahim, Mohamedy ‘Ortiga’ Mohamed and three others. Fonia, who primarily spoke during the video, kept threatening and inciting against police and army forces.

Fonia said during the investigation that he was partially responsible for the militant attacks in Helwan that clashed with police and security days before launching the video, according to the Interior Ministry’s press statement.

The statement added that Fonia said that before shooting the video, they only had 4 machine guns, but they went to a gun dealer at al-Saf district in Giza and bought over 15 heavy weapons, which they threatened about using on security in the video.

Meanwhile, spokesperson of the Ministry of Interior General Hani Abdel Latif said in a phone call with Mehwar channel “the ministry will announce soon all the details of the arrest of those militants and their names.”
