A police officer was shot dead on Wednesday by gunmen in the Al-Obour district of the city of Arish in North Sinai.
Security sources said the gunmen fled in a private car after they shot officer Mahmoud Mohamed.
His body was taken to the Arish morgue while prosecutors took over the investigation.
Police and military personnel have been targeted by attacks since the ouster of president Mohamed Morsy in July 2013.
