Journalist who filmed Helwan Brigades charged with terrorist group membership

Aliaa Nasr Awad, who filmed the Helwan Brigades, is now under investigation for membership in a terrorist group by the Supreme State Security Prosecution after being arrested in Alexandria, Youm7 reported Wednesday.

A video she filmed was widely shared on social media last month, and showed a group of masked men chanting, “No more peace with Interior Ministry.”

“I think that recording a video like this and uploading it on the internet for my journalism organization is considered to be a scoop. I’ve covered a lot of demonstrations and events, whatever its content or demands,” Aliaa said during the investigations, Al-Masry al-Youm reported.

The Ministry of Interior spokesperson Gen. Hany Abd Al-Latif announced that they had arrested some of the jihadists that appeared in the video, and that the person who recorded the video was a journalist working for Rasd website, which is affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood. The Brotherhood was declared as a terrorist organization Dec. 25, 2013; the declaration criminalizes any membership in or activities of the group

Aliaa is accused of membership in the Helwan Brigades, and recording a video of them to be published on the internet according to Youm7.
