Giza police arrested five people for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman in Saft al-Laban.
A taxi driver saw the incident and reported it to the police. He did not try to rescue the woman, fearing they would hurt him, but he did identify them.
When the police arrived at the scene, one of the rapists shot at them, forcing them to exchange fire and injure him in the leg. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The others managed to escape but were later arrested at a checkpoint.
The woman is an 18-year-old divorcee from Alexandria visiting Cairo. She said that while she was hailing a cab on the Ring Road, the rapists kidnapped her and assaulted her sexually.
