Former Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa said the Islamic State (IS) gives an “ugly face” for Islam that harms Muslims and Arabs all over the world and must be “firmly confronted.”
“We need to fight other reasons that lead to these kinds of terrorist groups, including frustration and anger due to injustice,” he said in a Monday statement.
He added that confronting IS is an urgent necessity, not only from the foreign perspective, but it must be concerning for the interests of the region.
Moussa also called for an urgent meeting of Arab countries, as well as to discuss the issue at the Security Council.
He said that the approach should be “conscious, integrated and comprehensive”.
The issued statement by Moussa also suggested reconsidering the United States alliance, due to its plans to send troops into the region without Security Council approval.
“There is noticeable danger could come out of breaching the UN charter and harm us later on,” Moussa said.
U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry visited Egypt Sept.13, and conducted meetings with president Abdel Fatah al-Sisi and Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry discussing the danger of terrorist groups including IS.
