Monday marks both the 41st anniversary of the beginning of the 1973 Arab-Israeli war, known in Egypt as the October war. It is also the third day of Eid Al-Adha, a four-day Islamic festival.

Three pro-Morsi protests erupted in the Mediterranean governorate of Alexandria, where protesters denounced what they described as a military coup against Morsi last summer.

Security forces quickly quelled the protests and arrested seven protesters, according to a statement by Alexandria's security directorate.

Similarly, security forces have intensified their presence in Cairo's Matariya district after pro-Morsi protesters gathered in front of Al-Nour Al-Mohamady Mosque and chanted anti-police and army slogans.

Morsi was ousted in July 2013 amid mass protests. The ousted president, along with his cabinet and party figures, is currently being prosecuted on a multitude of charges that include espionage and inciting murder.

Thousands of Morsi supporters have been arrested in protests as per the provisions of a restrictive protest law issued last November.
