Mokattam road will be closed for three days to remove dangerous rocks on both sides,Cairo governor Galal Saeed stated Wednesday.
The road will be closed at its entry ramp, and at the opposite end at the Saladin citadel of Cairo for three days starting from Thursday morning, he added.
“The governorate will remove the jutted rocks which could collapse or fall at any moment; it [closing the road] is a protective measure aiming to secure the hill, the properties and peoples’ lives,” he said.
The governorate is conducting the maintenance upon a recommendation that rocks could fall after an earthquake from a scientific committee whose members were chosen from Cairo University, the governor’s office manager Khaled Mustafa told The Cairo Post Wednesday.
He added that the operation is away from residential areas, and it will be limited to around 100 meters along the road.
