Environment Minister discusses crisis of new road with monks of Wadi Rayan

Dr. Khaled Fahmy, Minister of the Environment, visited today the monastery of St. Macarius of Alexandria, in the nature reserve of Wadi Rayan, Fayoum, to discuss crisis of a new highway intended to be built inside the monastery.

The government had decided to build the road that divides the monastery and destroys the nature reserve which is part of the monastery.

The monks offered different alternatives using Google Earth to carry out the project away from destroying the monastery and threaten the lives of its monks. Yet, the minister promised to discuss the matter with the cabinet.
